Josh Zeid joined the San Jac coaching staff as the pitching coach and analytics director after a 15-year professional career. His playing career spanned 10 seasons, including two years with the Houston Astros. Zeid pitched in 48 games with the Astros, recorded one save against the Seattle Mariners, and threw more than 700 innings combined during his professional career. After being drafted in the 10th round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, he went on to play 10 years with the Phillies, Astros, Tigers, Angels, Mets, and Cardinals. He was named an all-star in his 2010 season and went on to win two championships in 2010 for the Low A Lakewood Blue Claws and the 2017 AAA Memphis Redbirds.
Following his playing career, Zeid spent 4.5 years rebuilding the Chicago Cubs’ rehab pitching infrastructure and headed the pitching lab in Mesa, Arizona. He is highly trained in pitch design, data and analytics, delivery biomechanics, and writing and managing throwing programs.
During his career, Zeid played in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the Israeli National Team. He was named to the All-World baseball team during the 2017 World Baseball Classics after throwing 10 scoreless innings with one win and two saves. Zeid recently completed a dual pitching and pitching coach experience in Prague for the World Baseball Championships. He pitched in three games and coached the pitching staff.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Zeid graduated from Tulane University in 2018 with a degree in English and political science. In 2005, Zeid was the 30th overall pitching prospect in the country and was a part of the first No. 1 recruiting class in Vanderbilt University’s history.
Zeid and his wife, Stephanie, have two sons, Parker and Barrett.
